IVF and research.

Research, the use of new methods and ambitious goals enable us to improve our treatment offer and our results.

Details from a laboratory

Klinikk Hausken has a strong focus on improvement. We have set ourselves ambitious goals of delivering the best results. We work methodically to achieve this. Klinikk Hausken has an extensive database, and all types of measures are evaluated and compared on what gives positive effects. We are open to new knowledge and new methodology. New treatments are evaluated on theory and publications. New promising ideas are quickly implemented in the clinic and assessed.

An excellent example of this is time-lapse technology, a piece of advanced equipment that films embryo development. We were the first in Norway with this type of technology and are at the forefront of understanding this new flow of information. In this connection, our staff are invited speakers at international congresses and co-authors of scientific articles on the importance of embryo development to understand which ones are normal.

Time-lapse technology (TLT).

Time-lapse technology is the most important innovation in assisted reproduction.

In order to select the best embryo for reversal by IVF treatment, it is crucial to have as much information as possible about the embryo's development potential. Previously, this was done with microscopy, where the number of cells and shape were assessed. However, it is more important to see when the events (cell division) occur and how long the cells spend on this.

Time-lapse incubators take pictures of each embryo every ten minutes. This means that we get to assess the activity of the cells throughout the day. As a result, we get much more information about the embryo's potential for normal development and thus increase the chance that the right embryo is chosen for insertion.

Klinikk Hausken was the first clinic in Norway to acquire this new technology.

We have this technology in all our clinics. This means that all embryos are located in these modern incubators and is the only clinic in Norway that can routinely offer all patients this.

The first time-lapse incubator (EmbryoScope) was purchased in 2011. We now have extensive experience in interpreting this new information and have learned a lot about normal and non-normal embryo development. The figures show that the use of time-lapse technology has increased the number of children born per returned embryo by as much as 24%.

XXI Nordic Fertility Society Meeting Helsinki 2012

A morphokinetic timeline applicable to all embryos from all patients groups.

Klinikk Hausken is the first in the world to present a timeline for cell development that indicates success or failure in patients undergoing IVF treatment.

XXII Nordic Fertility Society Meeting Haugesund 2014

Nucleation errors and cleavage irregularities during human embryo development.

Klinikk Hausken presents data on irregular and anomalous cell division as an almost normality in normal development and repair mechanisms.

Article i Reproductive BioMedicine mai 2014 + ESHRE 2014

Limitations of a time-lapse blastocyst prediction model: a large multicentre outcome analysis.

Shabana Sayed, lab manager at Klinikk Hausken, is one of the foremost in embryology and sits centrally in several professional groups that develop time-lapse technology.

IVF follow-up study 2015

A large prospective study that shows the prognosis for success in further IVF treatment despite several negative attempts in the public sector. The study has been going on for several years and will be published in 2014/15. The results show that despite 3 or more negative attempts, one has> 60% chance of success if one changes clinic.

Create study 2014

A multicenter prospective observational study of coriofollitropin alfa (Elonva) vs standard therapy.

The study is worldwide and focuses on physical, mental and financial strain in connection with IVF treatment.

ASRM Meeting in Boston USA 2013

A Model to Calculate Embryo Viability and Female Receptivity.

Own developed model to calculate the relative contribution to implantation from the embryo and the endometrium (mucosa).

Proposed guidelines for time-lapse monitoring 2015

New article planned where the leading players in time-lapse technology will try to develop a shared understanding and interpretation of the embryo's capacity to implant and develop into a fetus.

XXIX ESHRE Meeting in Munchen 2014

Ovarian response prediction in controlled ovarian stimulation with 150 μg corifollitropin alfa in a GnRH-antagonist protocol.

The study has investigated how one can predict the result of a hormonal stimulation for assisted reproduction. There are two parameters, which are essential concerning the expected stimulation result. One (AFC) is measured using an ultrasound examination. The other is a blood test (AMH).

Norsk Multisenter Studie

Follow-up of children born after treatment of couples where the sperm is taken directly from the testicle 2013.

Norwegian multicenter study published in 2013. Klinikk Hausken was a major contributor.

Jon Hausken sits in PGD Board (PGD Nemda)

The PGD Board assesses and decides which couples should be able to receive preimplantation diagnostics of the embryo before return. Typical diagnoses are severe hereditary diseases.

Torolf Holst-Larsen sits in Biotechnologi Board (Bioteknologinemda)

The Biotechnology Board (Bioteknologinemda )is the health authorities' body for deciding how assisted reproduction should be designed in Norway.
