FER treatment

"FER treatment makes it possible to store embryos for a later sibling trial."

After IVF treatment, there may sometimes be leftover embryos. Good quality embryos could be frozen and used for a sibling trial or a new attempt if the former was unsuccessful. The most significant advantage of FER treatment is that the woman does not have to retrieve eggs. The woman gets the thawed embryo inserted into a natural or slightly stimulated cycle, and the whole thing is a painless procedure that only lasts a few minutes.

Freezing and storage of the embryo:

With a FER treatment, an agreement is entered into for freezing and annual storage. The embryos can be stored until you want to start a new trial or until the woman is 46 years old.

Return of thawed embryos:

When you want to use your frozen embryos, let us know. The doctor will then evaluate your medical record carefully, and you will be contacted by a nurse who will provide further information about the protocol and time perspective.

As it can take a few years between a fresh IVF and a FER trial, it is important that you sign the FER form before insertion. If you are in a relationship, both must sign and confirm that you both agree on the return of thawed embryos and that you are still a couple.
